Family love

I have a big, crazy, family. We are all quite different and unique. And I love it. I can't wait to see these people starting TOMORROW! First stop, the Schloemers. Including . . . Mom and Dad Schloemer Jennifer (and fiance Chris) Zoe Halle Jeremy Jenell. Second stop, the Tiemeyers. Including . . . Jenny and Dad Tiemeyer Lisa Brandon Manny John Steven (Sadly no Chris this year). This is my family (and of course Jeffrey). They are some of the most important people in the world to me and I love them all dearly . Merry Christmas! I'll post pictures of my time home after the new year =) ~SheriLynn P.S. Jeffrey gave me my christmas present last night . . . photography lessons! Best. Present. Ever. Soooo Excited!

resolutions. .smesolutions

So, what is everyone doing for New Years this year? Yes, I know it may be a little early to think about this seeing as Christmas hasn't even happened yet. And by NO means am I trying to hurry past this wonderful day. I am filled with excitement and anticipation. I can't wait to see family and friends and finally spend some quality time together! This week of work before going home on Friday is going to take forever! (not that I don't love my little Hayden). New Years has simply been on my mind lately. I by New Years, I mean the resolution part of New Years. I have never really been the kind of person to make a resolution actually. Weird, seeing as it's all the rage. I seriously can't think of one single resolution that I have made before. Probably due to the fact that everyone does it and then never seems to follow through. That bothers me so I usually just avoided it. Not to mention the fact that I have never really needed to make any dramatic changes to

Friday ramblings

It's Friday morning. . . which means my day off, and a chance to sleep in and not wake up to the jolting sound of an alarm clock. Every since I had mono a few years back, I have basically been able to sleep as much as I want. I've never been one of those people with an automatic alarm clock in their head that goes off each morning. But now that I have started getting up at 6:30 AM for work, my body has obviously decided to change things up. I woke up at 8:01 today. Wide awake. Still a little sleepy, but awake nonetheless. So, I got up. And this is what I saw outside our window: That's right, 24 degrees of goodness! Not snow, mind you, but lots of frost and fog. Isn't it beautiful? Poor Jeffrey was assigned the task of dropping the car off at the mechanic and then walking (the short 1/4 mile) to school. I'm sure I will hear about it when he gets home. He has been wanting actual snow for a while so this will have to do. Meanwhile, I am sitting in our big, cozy

Lentil Ew??

Lentils. What do you think of when you hear that word? Usually something along the lines of brown, mushy, EW. But please indulge me and let me try and convince you otherwise. Lentils are part of the legume family and originated in India and Pakistan. They come in all different colors including yellow, red, orange, green, brown, and black. They are also packed with nutrients. Having the 3rd highest protein of any plant based food, they contain a significant source of fiber, folate, B1, and iron (ladies??). When mixed with the right assortment of spices and vegetables, the power food has a delicious earthy taste and smooth texture. When I was in 4th grade, my mom was having more and more health problems and the lupus was getting the better of her. My parents were referred to a natural path doctor and decided to give it a try. This changed our family's life for the better. Not only were we introduced to natural herbs, plants, and minerals that would help my mom (and us) but also, a b

Roasted Tomato Soup Goodness

Now that fall is in full spin here in Oregon, the air is crisp and clear, the couch blankets are coming out, chai tea consumed, and the fire place is lit and cozy. All these things considered, I LOVE FALL! Since fall has commenced, I have been searching for warm and cozy fall recipes. I discovered this tasty little treasure of a soup in a Taste of Home magazine I received as a trial. They convinced me! Merry Christmas Sheri?!?! It took a bit of time to make but was actually pretty easy and completely deliciously rewarding! I made garlic and cheddar biscuits to go with and it was an absolutely delectable fall treat. The more traditional grilled cheese would be tasty as well! Enjoy! Roasted Tomato Soup 15 large tomatoes (5lbs.), seeded and quartered 1/4 cup plus 2 Tbsp. olive oil, divided 8 garlic cloves, minced 1 large onion, chopped 2 cups water 1 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes 12 cup heavy whipping cream fresh basil leaves 1. Place tomatoes in a greased 15-in. x

To the Top and Back!

Last night, Jeffrey left our apartment at 8:00PM to go climb Mt. Hood! At 11, 200ft. this giant is quite a climb. Though not as technical of a climb as say, Mount Baker or Mount Jefferson, Jeffrey tells me that the majority of the climb is long and slow-going (probably why it is called "the slog"). About a month ago, him and his friend Ryan attempted Hood, but were going on basically no sleep and ended up turning around because Ryan was pooped (Jeffrey said he could have kept going but you ALWAYS stick together, so he went back). This time, Jeffrey went with one of my collage roommates and 4 other people from her gym. So they left the lodge around midnight, summited and made it back by 10AM (he texted me this information). Jeffrey LOVES climbing. Even though he has not done too much of it, he eats, sleeps, and breathes climbing. Not a day goes by that he is not researching the next climb, talking about his plans, or buying more gear for his ventures. While it is, at times, a

The Next Five Years!

The news we received last week is going to change our lives forever . What was once a thing that would hopefully happen...has happened. Next August will be the beginning of a new five year adventure . Because..... JEFFREY GOT INTO GRADUATE SCHOOL! Ok , ok , I know that was a bit dramatic, but we are thrilled , ecstatic , grateful , and soooo happy ! This is what Jeffrey has wanted to do since high school. It was always, "WHEN I get into grad school..." But now it has finally happened! And it happened the first year he applied! There were 22 spots open for 150 applicants. I could not be more proud of him! Jeffrey will be attending George Fox University and in five years will have his PsyD ( fyi - it is the same level as a PhD but is more clinical based). His goal is to be a marriage/family and personal counselor. Our current lease ends in July so we will move further North to the Newberg / Tualatin area and he will begin the program at the end of August. I am c

Cravings

Right now I am desperately craving summer. Or more specifically, sun....warmth. Not blistering heat, mind you. But that 'wear just jeans and a tee-shirt, rainbow sandles wearing, run on dirt instead of in a gym, not have your eyes fried by the icy wind, your hair dries in 5 minutes, lovely freckles, have an iced coffee, go for a hike kinda sun. Today I got a slight glimpse as I didn't have to wear my amazingly warm Marmot jacket to class for one of the first times - and I was actually comfortable. Usually I am much more of a winter person. Don't get me wrong, I could really go for some snow pretty much ANY time of the year. And I LOVE the rain. The sound of it pouring outside and tapping the window while you are inside curled up and toasty is IRRESISTIBLE and I would not trade that for anything! But ENOUGH is ENOUGH already! Ya just gotta have some balance. I am sure that once warmer temperatures have graced us with their presence for a couple of months, I will be long

Skiing, parents, GRE, and other activities

I realize that it has been a while since I updates our blog but things have been pretty crazy lately...not crazy bad...crazy good! Jeffrey and I were able to go home for Christmas (we were unsure if we could because of his work schedule). We split the time between our families and were able to see a good majority of our friends as well. We went to Redmond, OR January 4-6 and stayed in a condo in celebration of our one year anniversary. It was a wonderful time to get away, relax, and spend some concentrated time together! We went skiing at Hoodoo Mountain for a day, walked around the quaint town of Sisters, OR for another, and basically slept in, ate, and relaxed. We also started reading an excellent book together! On our way back home, we stopped and snowshoed around for a couple of hours. It was perfect and just what we needed before starting another semester! Jeffrey took the GRE on January 3rd and raised his scores from the last time he took it! They were still a little unde
